The perils of Granular carbon filters and why we recommend Carbon Block
Granular carbon filters are by their design made from granular carbon. This means several things.
1 Granular carbon means that the carbon is not solid and as such the carbon can move within the canister it is enclosed. This generates carbon dust which can get flushed down stream into the treated tank or the carbon carries over to the next filtration stage risking blockage of that filter.
2 As the carbon settles in the canister in "transit", or after filling, the carbon can generate a section of just air or space at the top. If the filter flow is in a radial direction it means liquid or gas can flow through untreated, making it pointless having the filter at all. If the filter has a longitudinal flow then movement of the carbon at the top is likely.
3 Granular carbon can "Fluidise" meaning there is no guaranteed contact time with the carbon and the liquid, another problem not present with KX Industries carbon block filters.
Carbon Filters a true breakthrough
If you need Carbon filters CFS is probably the best option to support your needs, but as with every good product we would not be doing our job properly if we did not make you aware of the downside of any carbon filter.
If you are using a carbon filter to remove chlorine, after that carbon filter there is nothing in the water to stop microbial growth. Hence, water should not be stored but kept moving, and microbial filtration should be considered at point of use.
