Nylon Filters

Nylon Filters

Our sediment depth filters are available as spun polypropylene or nylon filters. In these gradient density filters, the outer layers trap larger particles, thereby increasing the efficiency of the inner layers. Frequently used in reverse osmosis and food & beverage filtration systems, these filters are suitable for potable water systems as there are no glues, additives or binders that can cause side effects in water processing applications.
Spun filters are made by finely melted strands of the filtration medium being blown and spun into a cylindrical shape. By varying the density of the layers of material, with the most porous on the outside, they can remove sand, dirt, silt, and rust particles from drinking water, or be used for many other applications. As the liquid progresses inward through the filter, smaller and smaller contaminants are filtered out. Nylon filters yield excellent performance, and are a good cost-effective option for those who wish to avoid the expense of more costly materials.
Besides making a good initial stage for the treatment of drinking water, depth filters are used for many other purposes, from home swimming pools to separating hydrocarbon fuels. Since some of these applications are relatively trivial, it makes sense that their operators may choose to go for a lower-cost budget alternative in terms of materials. But this in no way means that every product supplied by CFS Filtration isn’t engineered to an exceptionally high standard, nor does it mean that the part you receive won’t be up to the job; it simply means that there is a cost-conscious alternative for those who are purchasing nylon filters for less demanding environments and non-essential systems.
The simplest form of depth filtration is the sand bed model which has been around for centuries. Any survival enthusiast will tell you that, by layering sand according to its coarseness and pouring water through, you can effectively filter out any particulate matter and make good quality water safe for drinking. By using synthetic materials to create the same effect, it is possible to manufacture cartridges which can be used in highly reliable and efficient systems. In terms of sediment filtration, there is simply no reason to do it any other way unless there are specific constraints which require a different approach. When used in conjunction with final stage membrane filtration, sediment depth filters can form part of a comprehensive system which can eliminate particulate matter from a solution.
Because nylon is so common and easy to work with, nylon filters can be produced and stored very cheaply, and we always have plenty in stock in the standard sizes. As you would expect, the team at CFS Filtration are also happy to help out if you need something a little different, for example a filter that is made to non-standard measurements. We can provide complete filtration solutions, or any component within a system for a given application. Other services we are able to offer include integrity testing and lab services.
